Court remands man for receiving stolen aluminum valued at N1.2 million.

A Kubwa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Wednesday remanded a man, Eze Hilary, at Suleja Prisons for allegedly receiving a stolen roll of aluminum valued at N1.2 million.

The Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Kutigi, who gave the order, said the accused should remain behind bars for two weeks pending when he would fulfill the bail condition.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kutigi, however, gave the accused a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties.

He adjourned the case to Aug. 26 for further hearing.

Hilary, 32, who resides at Sokale Dutse, a suburb in Abuja, had pleaded not guilty.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Joseph told the court that on March 30Mr Ihegasie Samuel of East Aluminium Company in Zuba reported the case.

According to the prosecutor, some of the company’s staff on March 18 jointly stole one roll of aluminum valued at N1.2 million.

He said the accused, knowing or having reason to believe that the item was stolen, went to the company after close of work, received and retained the property.

The offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation.
