Kings College ex-students give back to alma mater at reunion

Former Federal Commissioner for Works and Housing, Alhaji Femi Okunnu and Co-Founder of the popular Eko Hospital, Dr. Sunny Kuku have commended the 1997 set of King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOBA) for their donation to the school 20 years after.

They spoke at a dinner organised by the set as part of activities commemorating the 20th anniversary of their graduation from the school.

Okunnu, who was the keynote speaker at the dinner, urged other old students to emulate the set, saying the donation of a classroom, cricket pitch and kits among others to the school was highly commendable.

While lauding the former students for keeping the flag flying, Okunnu noted that the best form of investment is that done to improve education quality.

He called on government, private sector, parents and old students to come together to reclaim the nation’s lost glory in the education sector.

The old students, as part of activities marking their 20th anniversary had donated the items to the school while also facilitating freedom for 30 inmates of the Medium Security Prison, Kirikiri, Lagos, who were remanded between August 29 and 31 for various offences including street trading, illegal refuse dumping and breach of peace, among others.

In his welcome address at the dinner, which held at the school hall, the interim chairman of the association, Mr. Akin Rotimi, said in appreciation of the school’s contribution to their progress in life, the set has renovated and equipped the model classroom with smart boards and inverters for back-up power supply.

Rotimi, who also commended one of them and the incumbent Chairman of Lagos State Cricket Association, Mr. Kofi Sagoe for facilitating the donation of the cricket pitch and kit.

He said; “ A cricket coach has been engaged to train the boys twice a week. For this we are grateful to KCOBA Kofi Sagoe for aligning with our vision and making this happen.

The programme featured award ceremony for some of the teachers who taught the students while they were in school.
