Pharmacists, doctors implement strategies to improve medical services

As part of efforts to boost healthcare delivery, the leaderships of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) have constituted a joint committee on inter-professional harmony to improve the working relationship between the two professions.

Addressing newsmen, at the presentation of the report by the committee recently in Lagos, President, PSN, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, said it was a good day for Nigeria’s healthcare system because medical doctors and pharmacist would implement strategies to enhance effective collaboration and development for health care outcomes.

Ohuabunwa stated that if members of the healthcare team would take away anything that would cause disharmony and then work together, the output would be better, the health care system will be better and Nigeria will be better.

Also, President, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Francis Faduyile, harped on the need for healthcare professionals to work together. He said it is important to bring healthcare professionals together because they are in the world to improve the health of patients.

“When I was the chairman of NMA in Lagos State, I inherited over 12 court cases, and brought all of them out of court. We brought all the factions of healthcare bodies under one roof, personally I think the more we talk to ourselves the more we understand ourselves and also stick to international best practices, the better for us,” the NMA president added.

Faduyile continued: “Most importantly, my message to every health worker is for us to think of the patients first because any of us at any given time can be a patient. If we have that at the back of our mind, I am sure we will all see the improvements in the health sector.”

“If you see one of the questions that were rolled out during the response in the questionnaire, pharmacists believes that doctors are working against them while doctors believe that pharmacists hate them.

“We are not talking, the more we talk with ourselves the more we know ourselves. They say doctors do this and do that, even if they are doctors, we still tell them to let us seat down and resolve our problems. Let see how we can have a formidable force to fix these problems. The more we talk, the more we get to know ourselves and we will be able to make a decision that will not cause disharmony amongst ourselves.”
