NGO organises free medical screening
Trinity Healthcare Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), in collaboration with World Hepatitis Alliance, last Friday organised free hepatitis screening for community members in Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos.
The founder/project Coordinator of the NGO, Dr. Nseabasi Ekanem, said the exercise titled ‘know hepatitis, act now’ was to mark World Hepatitis Day 2017 and create awareness about the disease.
He said it was estimated that over 150,000 Nigerians are living with hepatitis C, with less than two per cent of them aware of their status. “Unlike hepatitis B, the C virus has a known cure, though the treatment is expensive.”
Ekanem enjoined Nigerians to avoid lifestyles that could lead to contacting hepatitis virus. One of the beneficiaries, Anjorin Toyin congratulated the organisers for providing the screening and vaccines for the community members.
