Kano monarch underscores importance of exclusive breastfeeding
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll, has urged Nigerians to educate their wives on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding of newborn babies for six months.
Speaking at the launch of a film, Dan Birni Nagge Dadi Goma, by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Sanusi said breast milk is the only food and drink a baby needs in the first six months of its life.
The Emir, represented by the Sariki Kiru, Alhaji Hamuza Ado Bayero, commended UNICEF, assuring it the information would be passed on to the people.
In her remarks, the chief nutritionist, UNICEF, Abuja, Mrs. Christine Kaligirwa, said the programme was part of the agency’s efforts at promoting breastfeeding, thereby saving lives.
