Ikeja Rotary donates equipment to LASUTH, patients at Christmas

In line with its tradition spanning over 30 years, Rotary Club of Ikeja last Friday spent the early hours of Christmas celebrating with sick patients and management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, Lagos.

The humanitarian gesture, which put smiles on the weary faces of the sick, also saw to the donation of medical equipment to the hospital.

The celebration, which was graced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, also witnessed visitation to several wards in the hospital, presentation of gifts and awards to staffers and best wards.

President of the club, Tosin Kadiri, expressed delight that the club was able to put smiles on the faces of the patients as well as reduce the burden of the hospital through the donations.

According to him, “It is the tradition of the club in the past 30 years to spend the first Christmas hours with patients in the hospital”.
The donations, which include an incubator, three Spygnomanometers, 200 hundred bed spreads, 200 pillow cases and standing fans for surgical operations were as a result of needs assessment carried out in the hospital by the club.

He stressed the robust relationships established with the hospital over the years to bring succour to the hospital as evidence to Rotary Club’s ideals of hospitality and endless humanitarian endeavour to the society.

Kadiri further expressed willingness to continue the programme because of the impact on the patients, who are in the hospital for one ailment or the other at a time; they should be celebrating with their families at home.
Elated by the gesture, Idris extolled Rotary Club of Ikeja for sustaining the programme in the last 30 years.

The Commissioner recalled that the club had so far donated equipment worth over $1million to the hospital, saying that it was a reflection of the club’s dedication to service of Nigerians, and LASUTH in particular.
Idris, who was represented by the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adewale Oke said the patients would be ever grateful.
“ The visit and the gifts to the patients have made a big difference in the life of these depressed,” he said.
