Council to map facilities, services nationwide

The Federal Government has assured that it would work hard towards boosting local production of pharmaceutical products.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who made this pledge, stressed that the Government would encourage Local Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and help in building their businesses so as to create jobs and conserve the nation’s foreign reserve.

Adewole who made this pledge when members of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG-MAN) led by their Chairman, Okey Akpa visited him in Abuja.

He also advised the group to give quality a priority.

‘’If quality is in doubt we are not compelled to buy from you,’’ Adewole said.

The Minister assured that his Ministry would strengthen its over- sight functions to ensure standards so as to protect the Health of Nigerians. ‘’While we support you to grow your business, we will not compromise the health of Nigerians’’ he said.

He also urged the group to key into the Government Agenda for the health sector, as the priority of the Present Administration was that all Stakeholders in the Health Sector must share a collective focus to deliver Health Care to Nigerians.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, emphasized that there was need for quality and affordable drugs for the people and the PMG-MAN must assist Government in monitoring the activities of its members by having a proper regulation and laws.

Earlier, the PMG-MAN, Chairman, Akpa, who assured the Minister of the association’s full support and cooperation on delivering accessible, affordable and qualitative health care for every Nigerian, further appealed to the Minister to urgently look into problems like creating Special Status for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Industry, Patronage.

Meanwhile, the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) says it has successfully concluded a pilot scheme of mapping pharmaceutical facilities, services and institutions in Surulere area of Lagos State with the goal of producing geo-database of the distribution of pharmaceutical services to improve strategic planning, policy formulation, decision making and implementation.
