FrieslandCampina to make quality dairy nutrition accessible to Nigerians with Peak Wazobia
Determined to make to make quality dairy nutrition accessible to Nigerians, increase consumers’ options and as part of other initiatives to mark the 60th anniversary of Peak milk in Nigeria, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, has launched ‘Peak Wazobia’ and a range of other low unit portion packs (LUPP) of Peak and Three Crowns evaporated and powdered milk.
The management of FrieslandCampina WAMCO at the launch of the products on Tueday, in Lagos, said the initiative is positioned to help manage the growing incidences of malnutrition across the country as these product offerings come at affordable prices and are same premium quality as the big size packs.
Managing Director, Rahul Colaco, said, ”We are key players in feeding Nigerians; for us this is a privilege and a responsibility that we are fully committed to. Of course this initiative is fully linked with the pillar of our mission statement, which addresses issues of nutrient security.
“This pillar focuses on issues of malnutrition which is also a growing national concern. We believe that with daily consumption of milk through increased accessibility of quality dairy nutrition, consumers have the opportunity of getting up to 50 per cent of the nutrients that they require daily, which the body cannot make on its own.”
At the products launch, Professor of Community Health Nutrition & Nutrition Consultant, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Ebenezer Ojefitimi, in his presentation titled, “The Role of Dairy in Promoting Nutrition: A Public Health Perspective” highlighted the significant benefits of quality nutrition in preventing issues of malnutrition across all life stages and economic groups.
According to Ojefitimi, “dairy and its products should be endorsed as an integral component of healthy patterns. After all, they nutritionally beneficial, environmentally sustainable, economically viable and culturally acceptable. Dairy and its products have the potential to assist us to achieve our number 4 and 5 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).”
Colaco added: “‘Peak Wazobia’ was introduced to make ‘Rich & Creamy Peak’ evaporated milk, accessible to all Nigerians. Whether we live in towns or villages, or we work in offices or study in schools, North or South, East or West, we all need complete and quality nutrition. That is the Wazobia story; accessibility to quality nutrition.
“With the recent market launch of Peak Wazobia pack, FrieslandCampina WAMCO therefore presents a basket of low unit single serve packs at prices that fits everyone’s pocket.”
These small packs contain the same milk as the bigger packs and thus contain the same quality consumers expect.
“Our wide distribution network makes these products available in shops and markets around. These packs would afford consumers from all walks of life access to quality milk more often for various occasions.”
