Chike Okoli Foundation marks World Heart Day

Chike Okoli Foundation (COF) has marked World Heart Day with the theme: Share the Power.To this end, it organized the eighth Chike Okoli Week.COF is a non-profit organization set up in May 2006, in memory of Chike Edward Okoli, who passed away on May 31, 2005, five days after his 25th birthday from undetected coronary artery disease.

The Chike Okoli Week, which aims to provide free healthcare services and sensitize people worldwide that heart disease and stroke are world’s leading cause of death held September 29-30, 2017 at Ladipo Market, Lagos and many persons were provided free services through the help COF’s medical team.

The services included:
• Lecture series on healthy living and preventive options against cardiovascular diseases.
• CVD risk factor screening for participants such as blood pressure test, random blood sugar tests and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement
• Distribution of health-related information materials

A statement by programme coordinator Beauty Alfred added: “COF was basically set up to fight poverty and cardiovascular disease (CVDs). Our vision is to ensure that every young Nigerian becomes aware of CVDs and is further equipped with Entrepreneurial Skills for the building of a healthy and prosperous nation.

“In the last eleven years, the foundation has reached out to more than 10 million people across Nigeria and set out to tackle this problem by raising awareness among the Nigerian population, principally the youths. It targets the broad population through various informative channels that include radio, newspapers, brochures, posters and the internet. We always encourage participants to spread the information they have received to others, especially family members, friends and colleagues.”
