Group donates food item, toiletries to incapacitated persons

As part of humanitarian services to the society, University of Lagos Muslim Community (UMC) has paid visit to Gbagada General Hospital, National Orthopedics Hospital, Igbobi and Bab-es-Salam Children home home in Lagos donating foodstuffs, provisions and toiletries to patients in the hospitals and children of the orphanage home.

The General Secretary of UMC, Proff. Lukman Adams, said the group has embarked on series of humanitarian visit to uplift the less privileged, needy and those who are incapacitated in one form or the other.

“The visitation to the hospitals would play a vital part in helping the patient recover quickly. They will realize that they are not forgotten, we also feels their pains and wish them well,” he said.

Adams urged Muslim groups to embark on such humanitarian gesture, saying: “This is a very big responsibility that our creator as enjoined on us. Sickness does not know your religion affiliation. That is the more reason doing the visitation, we care less of patient’s religion. Our aim is to get every body back on feet”.

The Spokesperson for UMC, Dr Mariam Gbajumo-Sheriff, commended the head of Bab-es- Salam Orphanage Home, for the warm welcome.

She said that the visitation is part of UMC humanitarian activities lined up for the month of Ramadan. “The community decided to pay a visit to the home in order to support the orphans financially and with words of advice”.

She explained further, that the intention behind the visit was to understand the mode of operation of the home and likewise know how UMC can support their activities.

The Head, Bab-es- Salam Orphanage Home, Imam Hassan Tahir, thanked the team for the visit. He noted that that the home has children in nursery, primary and tertiary institutions, which is funded mainly through scholarships.

He requested that donours should help in the area of maintenance and filing of cars and generators owned by the home with fuels.

“Although the home has been receiving regular gifts from people but they are basically rice, indomie and spaghetti but there should be variety in the gift. Items like yam flour, yams, beans, and underwear and sanitary wears for the children should be included.

The group assured, that UNILAG Muslim community will be visiting regularly and will like to impact positively on the children by supporting the cause financially and otherwise.
