Grace Schools partner Canadian varsity on new admission programme

To boost chances of Nigerian students seeking opportunities to study professional courses overseas at reduced cost, Grace Schools, Gbagada, Lagos, in collaboration with Loyalist College of Applied Art and Technology, Ontario, Canada, has launched a new admission programme to benefit students.

Speaking on the partnership, Administrator of the school, Mrs. Iyiola Olatokunbo Edun, said the collaboration involves setting up a mini campus in Nigeria for the first year students of the institution.

She explained that with the agreement, Grace school would serve as a representative of the institution in the country and carry out educational activities on its behalf for first year students.

According to her, while most courses on offer at the institution is three to four years, successful students would spend a year in Nigeria and the rest in Canada.

The admission requirements for this programme, she said is Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.

Describing the partnership as good news for parents, she noted that the programme is an opportunity for students to study what they like and get qualifications that would make them ready for the 21st century workplace.

She said the school decided to partner with the institution after a visit to 10 Canadian universities in 2017 in which Loyalist College was outstanding with top-notch facilities.

“The institution mainly focus on professional degrees and courses relevant to the 21st century such as computer based courses, engineering and medicine. The tuition for the institution including accommodation is 15,000 Canadian dollars, which is less than the US dollars.

“We discovered that many Nigerian students that seek to study abroad most times end up not getting the courses they desire.

For instance, some would want to study Medicine but end up studying Biochemistry.

But such will not happen with this partnership. Loyalist College would be the one regulating all exams on campus, including curriculum. Students would be writing exams as if they are in Ontario. This is a new innovation.”
