GIC founder, Osime advises graduating students to manage freedom well

Founder/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Global International College (GIC), Mrs. Abolaji Osime, has counseled outgoing students of the school to be discerning in their choices as they engage higher gears in their educational pursuits.

Osime, while speaking at the 2016 graduation ceremony of the college, informed the departing students that the university environment was quite different from what they have been used to hence the need for them to manage their new-found freedom well.

According to her, the country was desperately in need of hardworking young men and women who would be hard at work in their bid to rewrite the country’s history.

“Dear Class of 2016, university education is quite different from the Sixth Form education you have just completed. Going to the university brings up new challenges, responsibility and maturity. You were once treated like children but now, you will be treated as adults. The university environment is quite different from what you have been used to. You were born to be great, born to impact the world. Our world is desperate for the next generation who are determined to make a difference. Nigeria is desperate for young hardworking young men and women who will come back and change the trajectory of our nation. Are you going to make a difference? Are you going to stand apart from the crowd, we need students that will stand apart that will take on the world,” Osime stated.

“Increasingly we are seeing young people making a difference. They want to make the world a better place through their lifestyles, their careers and the products they sell. They are creating jobs, building the economy, and circulating wealth in brand new ways that we can learn from. Young Nigerian entrepreneurs are out in the field establishing businesses and providing solutions within various communities,” the GIC founder informed the graduands.

She urged them to be determined to make an impact, strive to stand out, and also be determined to say no to peer pressure and stand their ground, stressing, “Stand up for God and always do the right thing.”

Director General of Education Quality Assurance, Lagos State, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, reiterated the need for graduating students to be of good conduct and carry themselves as worthy ambassadors of GIC and their families.

According to her, when students are not distracted by anti-social activities, but focus on their studies, the tendency that they would excel in their academic endeavours were very high.
