Politicians and religious leaders have been blamed for championing divisive tendencies in the country. Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari stated this when he received leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and Abuja.

Masari also said that lack of proper religious education was negatively impacting on the living condition of many Nigerians especially in the northern part of the country. He said religion should be seen as a vehicle for promoting unity among Nigerians rather than seen as a dividing factor.

He, therefore, called on religious leaders to always remember that religion is about service to humanity, and to work towards making Nigeria a more peaceful country.

He also called on religious leaders to continue to promote good neighbourliness, adding that a good neighbour could be more helpful than a bad brother.

Earlier, the chairman of CAN in the north, Reverend Yakubu Pam said the organisation was in the state as part of their national executive committee meeting of the association.Rev. Pam however commended governor Masari for the good work he has been doing in the state and for Christians in the state.
