MICA equips youth on career development

The Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness (MICA) has urged the youths to focus on their talented areas and exploit the economic opportunities in the choice of career.

The Islamic organization organized a sensitization talk on career choice for secondary school children and admission seekers in Alimosho Local Government Council in Lagos.

The career talk drew attention of students from different schools in the state while professionals from different fields urged the students to choose their carrier based on talent, individual interest and avoid being misled by peer group.A journalist with Lagos Television, Qazeem Funmilayo, told the students to ensure that they exhibit good qualities of a communicator, writer and listener.

He admonished the students to remain focused as soon as they get to the university as the campus comes with its distractions. An Islamic scholar, Ustaz Munirudeen Arriyadi, urged the students to seek knowledge adding that it was dangerous in the case where an Islamic scholar was not knowledgeable enough noting that such fellow would misled people.

“People respect Islamic scholars and you can be an Islamic scholar and still be a lawyer or a doctor, it does not hinder you from pursuing your career,” he said.A Teacher, Mrs Auwal Lawal noted that some parents do mislead their wards because they want their children to take after their career but this should be cautioned, because their areas of interest would be different from that of the children.

“Focus on your talent and areas of interest in your choice of career, don’t give room for peer influence,” she said. A Lawyer, Mrs Maryam Busayn, urged the students who were aspiring to study law to ensure that they cultivate the habit of reading, writing and being good listeners.

She told the students that other than their choice of career, they must also be versatile to learn some crafts along with their academics pursuit.“If you want to be a lawyer, you must build your self confidence, be a good listener, reader and must be able to write well. Irrespective of your choice of career, you all must be hardworking and disciplined to achieve success in your academics,” she said.

An Engineer, Iskeel Ismail, explained the different aspects of engineering courses and guided the students on how to pick specific aspect that suit their interest.He urged the students to desist from examination malpractices as most schools now give answers to students in the examination hall.
