Clerics task Muslims to get PVC, vote credible candidates

The Chief Imam of Abesan Estate Muslim Community (AEMC), Alhaji Muslimdeen Najeemdeen, and other Islamic scholars in the community have advised Nigerians to vote reliable candidates in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

The Chief Imam of Abesan Estate Muslim Community (AEMC), Alhaji Muslimdeen Najeemdeen, and other Islamic scholars in the community have advised Nigerians to vote reliable candidates in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

Najeemdeen gave the advice during Eid-el-Adha congregation prayer in Lagos.He said, the only way to move the nation’s democratic system to a high pedestal is getting the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC) and elects credible candidates.

The Imam urged eligible voters in the state to take advantage of the two weeks extension giving by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the ongoing PVC registration exercise, to be able to vote for candidates of their choice in the coming elections.

“The PVC is the weapon that gives us the opportunity to select our leaders, go to any of the registration centers and ensure that you are registered, “he said.He said patriotism towards one country is part of faith. “ For Muslims, loyalty to his country is a key part of faith but that must not exceed religious tenets. That serves as a source of peace for Muslims and fellow citizens”.“This feeling we have towards our own country is a motivation for us to serve it well. People should work and pray towards the well-being of their nations”, he said.

He lamented the political intrigues by rival political parties in the country. “ The level of attacks, both verbal and physical, between members of the competing political parties attracts tensions. We are witnessing very ugly attacks being hurled at political foes” .

The cleric stressed the need to put a strategic measure in place to conduct a peaceful elections in the country. He urged Muslims to be critical partakers in the affairs of the nation. “ We must ensure peaceful election because what ever happen in the country affect all”.
“Although we may belong to different organizations or political parties, as Muslim, we should be duly concerned about keeping the faith and keeping the peace in our beloved country”, he said.

Najeemdeen appealed to Muslim adherents to strive for a credible election, free fair and non-violence election.“We must shun sentiments and violence in order to elect credible politicians who can serve people”, he said.Deputy Mufasir of Abesan Estate Muslim Community, Imam AbdurRasak Akorede Subar said, Eid-el-Ahda celebration is to commemorate the sacrifice by Prophet Ibrahim in complete obedience to Allah.

“It is a day Allah reward prophet Ibrahim over his steadfastness and ultimate devotion on the part of Allah. Muslims honour this by sacrificing an animal on Eid al-Adha every year,” he said.He therefore urged Muslims to celebrate in moderation, reflect on the lessons of the sacrifice and imbibe the true spirit of selfless service to Allah and humanity.He urged Nigerians to shun the antics of politicians and other criminals who instigate violence for economic or political gains during the coming election.

The Education Secretary of Abesan Estate Muslim Community, Mr. Taofiq Adeoshun, said the leaders and the followers must shoulder the task of nation building, for the country to progress. He urged all to supplicate to Allah for continued corporate existence of Nigeria and seek divine guidance for the leadership at all levels.
Member of the Community, Alhaji Jamal Adediran, said Eid-el-Adha is a period for remembrance of Allah, the Exalted and His prohibitions. Let us remain Muslims while celebrating and avoid indecencies, immodest acts and consumption of alcoholic substances.

“Eid-el-Adha is an opportune time for us to show empathy to fellow Muslims and Non-Muslims through sharing and giving, by providing assistance in cash and in kind to those in serious need as enjoined by the Prophet (Peace be upon him), he said.
