Centenary celebration: Ahmadiyya holds free health service, peace walk

The Women Servants of Allah Group – Lajnal Immaillah of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Nigeria, last weekend organised free medical camp and health walk in Lagos to mark 100 years anniversary of the organisation in Nigeria.

No fewer than 850 people benefited from treatment of different ailments at Oba Ridwan Oluwalambe Taiwo Multi-Purpose Hall, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos suburb.

The beneficiaries, comprising children, adults young and old, were treated of malaria, urinary respiratory infection, gastro intestinal, ear/nose/throat, hypertension, other childhood illness, among others by Ahmadi Muslim doctors, Nurses and Pharmacists for two days.

The leader of the medical team, Mrs Jumai Azeezat Lakunle-Bello said children and pregnant mothers were mostly targeted, “owing to the increasing rate of maternal mortality,” while adults were also alowed to benefit.She added that there was no casualty but encouraged the mothers to pay attention to their children’s feedings and health.

Jumai stressed the need for mothers to uphold their responsibility of taking care of home and the community wholeheartedly, so that good health status can be achieved.

Among the beneficiaries was a 76-year old Jimoh Ibrahim, who hailed from Kwara State . He said he wasn’t aware of the programme but participated and benefited fully when he saw some children passing by.

Street Jankara, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, thanked God and Oba of Ojokoro Land, Ridwan Oluwalambe Taiwo, for his participation. He explained that it was Oba who encouraged him to participate in the free health service through announcement in the communities. He expressed happiness that despite his religious background, he benefited from the free health service.

Other beneficiaries, Mrs Olatunji and Mrs Ajani said they got the information about the programme on radio and they prayed to God to continue to strengthen the Jamaat .

Two students: Samuel Emmanuel, 13 and Damilare Erinosho, 14 were among the beneficiaries. They got to know about the service on radio and both prayed that God should continue to protect lift the organization for the initiative.

Also, a peace walk, which took place along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway was also designed to sensitize people about the 100 years celebration. Leader of the women group, Dr. Basirat Dikko said the walk was also aimed at
lending the women’s voice to global peace and encouraging everyone to improve their health status through walking and regular physical exercise.

Similar peace walk had been held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State as well as in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, while arrangement is being perfected for the walk to be held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja soon.
