FOMWAN produces, distributes personal protective equipments

Poised to ensure a surplus of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the country, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has trained people on how to make facemasks, hand sanitisers and liquid soaps.

Speaking during the training which marks the group’s yearly activity week, The Amirah (President) FOMWAN Lagos Chapter, Dr. Halima Egbenrongbe, said the activity week is usually marked with all sorts of activities ranging from community development, humanitarian activities, lectures, seminars symposia, but due to the current situation in the country and in the world, the group was able to make soaps, hand sanitizer, nose masks and distributed them to the local government and to the less privileged persons in the community.

FOMWAN National Chairperson, Community Development and Humanitarian Services, Khairat Sodique, said the yearly activity was aimed at reviewing the organisation’s accomplishments on a yearly basis. “The purpose is to be able to review our activities for the past year and make amendments where necessary. A day like this is always set-aside during the week as humanitarian organisation, which we are observing today.”

The Head (Baale) of Makoko kingdom, Omo Oba Raymond Adekunle Abdulfatai Olaiya, commended the organization for the humanitarian gesture. “What they do today is good, it will go a long way to empower people of Makoko and also curb the spread of coronavirus in our community.”

He noted that this is not the first time FOMWAN is coming up with this type of humanitarian gesture in Makoko. “They do it every year, and they have different programmes. Apart from soap making, there are also numerous things they have done to people in this community. Today, they have not only given fish to people, but they have also taught people how to fish.

He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the training by producing in large quantities and sell to the general public.
