THE top 50 brands in Nigeria were recently unveiled in Lagos at the 2015 edition of the Brand Nigeria Leadership Forum, a special gathering of policy makers, thought leaders, representatives of over 100 major brands in Nigeria, with the theme ‘Prospect of an Economy Without Oil’.

The Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) TOP 50 Brands Nigeria, Taiwo Oluboyede said the purpose of the forum is to create a quality engagement public discuss platform, particularly, among the productive class, where it deliberates on feasible ways of enhancing the value of the Brand Nigeria.

“We like to positively focus on individual first, corporate organization and the government lastly.”

Commenting on the brands that got enlisted among the top 50 brands, he said, “These are the brands that have shown tremendous leadership in their categories, they are innovative and they have quality. They transcended their products or services categories to become part of the popular culture.

“They are iconic; they have set themselves apart from others, and inspire enduring affection among the consumers. These have earned them loyal followership and brand equity.”

According to him, without any doubt, brand is an essential property that enhances the value of a company and strong brand enhance followership, market performance and sells the company.

Oluboyede also stated that the 50 top brands selected this year are brands that have weather the storms over the years, and setting the pace in their various industries.

“As usual, this also includes the exciting 10 Brands to Watch. The brands to watch are those with positive and promising outlook with the possibilities of being reviewed for the 50 top brands class soonest. Though they aren’t among the top 50 yet, nevertheless, they are brands with compelling presence and significant brand building activities.

“The 2015 selection activities started with a review of about 250 major brands in Nigeria. These were passed through a perception test for suitability. The sum was subsequently reduced to top 100 for the purpose of popularity evaluation. We relied on publicly available information on each brands in arriving at these top 100.”

He said the criteria used in judging the brands enlisted are brand identity and retention, market acceptability, Corporate Social responsibilities, Customer Social responsibility, visionary and innovation and popularity evaluation.

Some of the brands listed are Access bank, Airtel Nigeria, Arik Air, Chi Limited and Dangote Cement Plc.
