Dreamfield Farms Limited has called on government at all levels to deploy adequate storage facilities at strategic points across the country to prevent food wastage.
The Chief Executive Officer, Dreamfield Farms Limited, Roland Omorosemi, explained that Nigerian farmers lose more than half of their farm produce due to lack of proper storage facilities.
Omorosemi stated this during the soft opening of its N12 million state-of-the-art Juice and salad bar in Lagos, recently.
In his words, “We need to improve on technology to prevent farm produce from wastage. The federal government can do something in this regard by providing storage facilities for even traders in strategic points in the market place. They can provide a 24-hour refrigerating system to preserve their goods at a token.”
He also stated funding and inadequate infrastructural facilities remain a major burden to doing business in the country, saying that most businesses still have to depend on alternative sources to meet their power supply needs.
Also speaking at the event, the Director of the company, Ayodele Omorosemi, added that the vision behind seeing up the Dreamfield Juice and Salad bar was borne out of commitment to promote good health in Nigeria.
“We thought that since we are into farming, we can introduce fresh products to our customers with no preservatives. A lot of people have had health issues due to their intake. We are soft opening today and as you can see we are officially opened with customers coming in for a treat. We are coming out in a unique way and not competing with other eateries. We want customers to see us as an entity where they can get healthy foods. We are doing everything raw and adding no preservatives to our juice, “he said.
He said there are plans to open up four additional outlets across different parts in Lagos before the end of the year.
“We want to build a brand and we want people to know us for fresh foods at affordable prices. Lack of storage facilities is one of the greatest burdens to farmers where most of them lose their produce as a result of poor or no storage facilities. Tto address this challenge we had to get an industrial refrigerator to make our food come out fresh and healthy,” he said.
