As part of efforts to boost rice production in the country, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is engaging 50 youths, including women in rice production in Kaduna State.

The participants, drawn from the three Senatorial districts of the state, were exposed to rice production techniques.

Speaking during the three-day training at the Federal Co-operative College, the coordinator, Mr. Rotimi Abolarin said the aim of the programme was essentially to assist the teeming unemployed youths to be self reliant.

“Since the Federal Government is concerned about diversifying the economy, especially in agriculture, some youths were selected across the state to take up rice farming, which is currently receiving a boost.”

Declaring the training open, the Provost of the Federal Co-operative College, Hajiya Aisha Ismail told the participants to feel free and learn what they will be taught during the training.

At the end of the training, participants were given rice seedlings and a token to assist them in their individual farms.
