Stakeholders in the sector have identified technical education as a key ingredient for national development. They subsequently enjoined the government at all levels to give priority attention to technological education.

They spoke at the official public presentation of Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) held at the Radisson Blue hotel, Ikeja.

Former Nigeria’s permanent delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Prof Michael Omolewa, in his keynote address, lamented that lack of technical and technological education has hindered growth and development in Nigeria.

The emeritus professor of adult education and seasoned historian said technical and technological learning is essential as they are the driving force of a country’s creativity and productivity.

Prof Omolewa applauded the government for its efforts so far in technical and technological advancement, and stressed the need of organisations, corporate and capable individuals, to support the government in its drive to promote technology and innovations.

He said: “It is in this regard that the Redeemed church has carried out the vision of technical and technological advancement by setting up this institution to develop the nation.”

Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Fola Aboaba, said RECTEM was established to address the increased cases of unemployment, create wealth and reduce anti-social activities.

He appealed to the public to invest in the vision of the founder to make the nation better, highlighting the needs of the newly founded school to include health centre, sports centre and equipment for entrepreneurship among others. A representative of Afe Babalola (SAN) urged the public to see national development as a responsibility for all.
