Montessori education is the only style of learning that enables children work in groups and individually and also helps them discover and explore the knowledge of the world with tutors guide, says the founder, Greensprings School, Mrs. Lai Koiki.

Koiki during a chat with journalists on early childhood education said the school adopted the Montessori method for early childhood education, due to its effectiveness in activating all the senses of a child.

To ensure that more children have access to such quality learning, she informed that the school would provide 20 per cent discount on tuition at the preschool level.

She said: “It is also part of our 35th anniversary celebration. Though, we now have elementary, secondary and IB Diploma categories, we are extremely passionate about the foundation of every child, because we understand the importance of early childhood education. The curriculum used in the Greensprings preschool is Montessori method, and the school is one of the only two schools in Nigeria that is certified by Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), United States of America- the international body that is responsible for the accreditation of Montessori schools.

“Here, pupils are guided by experienced tutors who work assiduously to bring out the best in every child, focusing these main areas: practical life exercises, which helps children develop confidence and self-control; sensorial education refines the five senses; while numeracy gives children the opportunity to familiarise with basic mathematical calculations. Also, literacy helps a child to develop writing, reading, and oral skills; and cultural subjects, deals with exploration and appreciation of nature.”

Noting that the 20 per cent discount is valid for the 2019/2020 session and everyone is welcome to take advantage of this opportunity, Koiki hinted that in Montessori method of learning, every material supports an aspect of child’s development, creating a match between the child’s natural interests and the available activities. It also helps them to learn through their own experience and at their own pace.
