Tinubu counsels students to embrace good morals, others
WITH the conclusion that the major challenge hampering growth and development in the country remains the absence of godly leaders in all facet of the nation’s economy, senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Oluremi Tinubu, has charged Nigerian students to embrace good morals and decent behaviours.
Tinubu who was guest speaker at the yearly Leadership Summit/Press Day of Dansol High School, Lagos, noted that history has proved that the best qualities true leaders must possess include stable character and noble behaviours, thus the need to expose children to godly teachings early in life.
In a paper entitled, “The Need for Godly Leadership in the 21st Century,” she maintained that the nation was experiencing difficult times, due to the obvious lack of godly leaders.
She said, “Truly, the challenge of this time is leadership, not just in government and politics, but also in business, sports, entertainment, media, arts and in many other fields. With what we are experiencing in Nigeria today, it is obvious that there is need for the practice of godly leadership in every facet of our society.
“As members of the younger generation, you need to live an upright life; lean on God; embrace good moral values and be principled. For me, I derive wisdom for leadership in my 55 years of life from the Holy Bible.
It has constantly been my source of strength. The Holy Bible is an all-encompassing material that has kept me, and if you follow that path, you must be a good leader.”
While commending the school for inculcating good morals in the children through series of activities, she informed that reports have it that most of the crimes perpetrated in the society were carried out by individuals with faulty backgrounds, challenging families and schools to give children good upbringing.
“By so doing we will create a peaceful and safe society. If we have good families in our communities, we will have a good and strong society by extension as well as good leaders.”
Chairman of Dansol Educational Organisation, Mr. Tunde Akinyemiju, remarked that the school would not relent in its determination to produce God-fearing children, who will always say no to societal vices and stay away from every form of misconduct.
President of the Press Club, Oyedele Olayinka, explained that the press day and leadership summit was organised to inspire students and guide them towards choosing the right career.
