NCA gets first outreach campus in Minna

Plans two more for Bauchi, Bayelsa states

NIGERIA College of Accountancy (NCA), the training arm of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), has commissioned its outreach campus in Minna, Niger state, the first of its kind in the country.

  The outreach campus is located at the newly established Niger State University of Education, Minna.

  According to its promoters, the decision to establish the outreach campus is to bring its services in the area of training of professional accountants closer to labour employer.

  Speaking at the commissioning ceremony ANAN President /Chairman, Governing Council, Sakirudeen Tunji Olabode, disclosed that plans were underway for the establishment of two more outreach campuses in Bauchi and Bayelsa states. 

  According to him, “The outreach campus also ensures that every part of the country is reached with the production of millennium-compliant accountants, who are conversant with current trends in the profession.

  He said the NCA “will create employment opportunities in the state in the areas of employment of lecturers and ancillary staff for the outreach campus.”

  Labode further explained that, henceforth all part-time students otherwise known as “mature students” from Kwara, Niger and Gwagwalada axis of the Federal Capital Territory are expected to take their professional examination in the Minna outreach campus.

  “Mature students from Niger, Kwara and Gwagwalada axis of the Federal Capital Territory are mandatorily required to take their Professional Examination ‘B’ (PEB) lecture in this outreach campus,” he said warning that “any candidate from these catchment areas, who fails to abide by this rule will be disallowed from taking ANAN professional examination beginning with the May 2015 examination,” he cautioned.

  In his remark, the state Commissioner for Commerce and Investment, Hassan Abubakar, who represented the state governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu said his administration was determined to give support to ensure the effective tak-off of the outreach campus as scheduled.

  He added that the government has also approved the donation of a bus to the new campus.

  Earlier, Vice Chancellor of the host institution, Professor Farouk Haruna Abdulraheed, said the establishment of the campus was an opportunity for all who fancy a career in accounting to try their luck. 

  He said the college has been playing host to a number of institutions and professional organisations, which includes the National Teachers Institute; the Nigeria Institute for Management Studies and Abdulsalami Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.

  He pledged that the institution would give the outreach campus the needed support to enable institute.
