LASU Kegites Club celebrates 30 years anniversary

It was a colorful event at the POWA event centre last week when the Kegites Club International, Lagos State University (LASU) chapter, celebrated its 30th anniversary. About 2000 members across all the public tertiary institutions and their alumni members filled the hall.

Speaking at the event, the secretary, board of trustees (BoT), Chief Olumide Oniyere, explained that Kegites Club International is an approved socio-cultural club in all government tertiary institution across the country.

He said no club in Nigeria has produced prominent people in the society like the club. “The club has the governor of Ondo State as the chairman, BoT; the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo as grand patron; and the Ooni of Ife Alayeluwa Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, as grand patron. Also, we have the support of the likes of the wife of Ekiti State governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, and the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi among others.”

Oniyere urged the students to concentrate on their studies and maintain peace in the university’s environment, adding that Kegites Club is known to be noble in all the institutions of learning that they exist.
 
The club originated from University of Ile-Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in 1963, and their primary aim is to create an atmosphere where students can refresh their brain after an hectic time of lecture and the club has more than 100 branches in Nigeria and abroad.
