Kolawole, Mashi appointed DVCs of UNIABUJA

THE Governing Council of the University of Abuja has approved the appointment of professors Adegboyega Anthony Kolawole and Sani Abubakar Mashi, as deputy vice chancellors of the institution.  

  This follow their election by the Senate of the school at its 145th regular meeting, held recently.

  A statement by the registrar of the school, Mrs Rifkatu Hoshen Swanta, said Kolawole is to serve as deputy vice chancellor in charge of academics, while Mashi will take charge of administration.

  The registrar stated that their appointment was in accordance with the provisions of the University of Abuja Act and was for a period of two years, in the first instance with effect from February 7, 2015.

  Kolawole succeeds Professor S.E. Kakulu, while Mashi takes over from Professor Gidado Tahir, who served as DVC academics and administration respectively.

  A 1982 graduate of English from the University of Ibadan, Kolawole holds a masters and doctorate degrees in English from the same university, which he obtained between 1987 and 1990.

  He started his teaching career at the University of Ibadan as a Teaching Assistant between 1987 and 1990.  He also taught at St. Andrews College of Education, between 1983 and 1992 before joining the University of Abuja, in 1992 where he rose to the rank of professor in 2006.

  Born February 27, 1964, Mashi graduated from Bayero University Kano, (BUK) in 1988 with a Bachelors degree in Geography.  He holds a masters degree in Soil Geography from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria (1995) and a Doctorate in Environmental Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS from Bayero University Kano (BUK) in 1999.

 He started his career in the academics in ABU as a graduate assistant in 1989 and rose to lecturer II in 1997 but left ABU in 1999 to take up appointment as a Principal Scientist with WATCON Environmental Consultants in Katsina.  He returned to academics in December 2000 when he took up appointment as Lecturer I with the Department of Geography University of Abuja.

 Professor Mashi rose to the rank of professor in 2008.
