Government College Ketu, Epe, representing Education District III has emerged the overall winner of the ‘2015 Spirit of Lagos School Challenge’.

The initiative as put together by Lagos State is targeted at stimulating imaginative ideas among students and also inculcating the right leadership traits in them.  The winning team carried the day with their presentation on reawakening maintenance culture among the people.

Through the “Save Our Treasure” (SOT) and “Do It Yourself” (DIY) slogans developed to drive the maintenance culture among students, the champions convinced panel and audience that the project if well harnessed, would save the state a lot of money.

Their argument was that if people imbibe maintenance culture as a tradition, they would be able to protect both private and public infrastructures around them. Community Senior Grammar School, Gberigbe, representing Education District II, finished second with their presentation titled “Wipe Out Dirt and Litters from CSGS community.”   Ifesowapo Aboru Senior Secondary School, Alimosho, representing education District I, emerged third with their presentation “Converting Waste to Wealth.”

Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire remarked that the initiative was in tandem with the state government’s efforts at ensuring the overall development of various communities in the state.  She added that it would reawaken the spirit of patriotism, which remains the hallmark of development in any community among the students.

She said any society that neglects the leaders of tomorrow was heading towards a bleak future, adding that the Governor Raji Fashola-led administration has invested so much in the future of the teenagers.

While commending the teachers for assisting the students in the development of their proposals, she said, “Government is working assiduously to empower teachers so that they can bequeath the right knowledge and morals to the students in return.”

The Project Director, Olaniyi Omotoso, while congratulating the various schools for their excellent performance, informed the participants, “You are all winners for proposing projects that will help improve the development of your schools.”
