Foundation trains teachers to improve learning

To reverse the negative ratings and poor conditions of public education in the country, Bunmi Adedayo Foundation (BAF), has trained 185 through its Capacity Building Programme.

Chairman, Board of Director, BAF, Babatunde Akinleye, who spoke during the graduation ceremony said the programme was designed to improve the quality of education for pupils in public primary schools and also build teachers capacity in pedagogy, mentoring, guidance and counselling.He said the foundation will not relent in its commitment to ensure quality teaching and learning in public schools, adding that their intervention in areas of capacity building, infrastructural development and educational facilities will not cease.

Highlighting the importance of primary education, he said that getting it right at the elementary level is key as it helps to strengthen a child’s foundation.He said: “Today we are graduating 185 primary school teachers who have been through our rigorous training in the last one year. More than 300 teachers participated in the training, but we have carefully selected 185 of them who met our graduation requirements. Since inception, we have adopted five schools and our aim is to train over 1000 teachers in two years time.”

Similarly, Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), Ganiyu Sopeyin, commended the foundation for the gesture, stressing that it would further motivate and strengthen the teachers to deliver a better and sound education.

“The Foundation has proven to be a worthy partner over the years, they have continually shown great commitment to support government in improving the sector. I urge the teachers to make good use of this opportunity so as to create a positive impact.”

Also, Project Director, Aliko Dangote Foundation, Zakari Momodu, said they embraced investment in education, owing to the fact that it is fundamental to the development of the nation’s human capital.

“Our youth today will drive our future success and we will need to help this next generation thrive by investing in their ability to learn and apply relevant skills. We will continue to nurture and equip Nigerian children with the competencies required to enable them successfully contribute to the global community,” Momodu said.
