Firm unveils plans for mathematics competition

PROMASIDOR Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell Milk, has unveiled plans for the 2015 edition of the Cowbell National Secondary Schools Mathematics Competition (NASSMAC).

  At a media briefing Tuesday,  Head of Marketing, Promasidor Nigeria, Mr. Festus Tettey, said that the competition was open to all students between ages 10 and 18 in Junior Secondary School Three (JSS3) and the Senior Secondary Two (SS2) attending full-time secondary education in government-approved schools in Nigeria. He stated that the best three students in junior and senior categories would represent each school.

  Tettey announced that the first stage examination would hold on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in 189 centres in 33 states across the country and the Federal Capital Territory adding, “Officials of the states’ ministries of education and Promasidor staff will be present at each centre to supervise the conduct of the examinations.”

  He assured that the result of the first stage examination will be available to the public on the company’s website: www.promasidor-ng.com as from Wednesday, May 20, 2015.

  For the second stage, which has been modified, Tettey said there will be a quiz and that a total of 54 candidates from each category will qualify. To be among those 54 students, he said, the best 20 students in each category will be picked nationally irrespective of their states; while the remaining 34 students will be drawn from all 33 states and Abuja. His words: “This selection will ensure that at least one representative is picked from each state.”

 Tettey informed that the best three students in each category at the state level will receive cash prizes of N25, 000, N20, 000, and N15, 000 for the first, second and third positions respectively. Similarly, apart from the trophy, the overall winner will get N750, 000 cash prize; wile the first and second runners-up will smile home with N500, 000 and N250, 000 respectively.

  Managing Director, Promasidor Nigeria Limited; Mr. Olivier Thiry, said Promasidor is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the competition by adding an exciting new twist to the conduct of the NASSMAC examinations. 

  His words: “We will now have a ‘Stage 2 Reloaded, which includes a quiz segment and wonderful new prizes for the winning students and their teachers. Also, I am happy to announce that this 15th edition will see substantial increase in the prize package.”
