Don urges curriculum review in line with current realities

• As 56 bag first-class at convocation
To address the increased cases of unemployment, vice chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo Prof. Joshua Ogunwole has called for a review of the nation’s curricula to meet up with the current realities.Prof Ogunwole who lamented the saturated labour market said undergraduates must be trained to create jobs.

The vice chancellor at a briefing on the activities lined up for the 14th convocation ceremony of the school also lamented cases of drug abuse among students saying the university authorities has made efforts to reduce the menace by 90 per cent.

According to him, the university has been strict in sanctioning any erring students no matter the plea from any quarters. Prof Ogunwole added that the school has recorded a high level of compliance, adding that even students have been supportive in fishing out culpits.

The VC who pointed out that the university has changed its business model from the faculty mode to the modified collegiate system identified human capital development, innovation, research and general administration as the institution’s core values.President, African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina will on Saturday, November 2 be conferred with the Doctor of Entrepreneurship of the institution.

Besides, the AfDB chief would also deliver the convocation lecture titled, “Africa’s future: Positioning university to nurture and develop entrepreneurial initiatives”.On the choice of Adesina, the vice chancellor said the core values of the university fit into life, activities and character of the AfDB President.

While highlighting the activities lined up for the event, Prof. Ogunwole said there would be convocation play by Theatre Arts programme and baccalaureate/choral evening today which would be followed by convocation cocktail tomorrow, November 1 and reached a climax on Saturday, November 2 with the conferment of honorary degrees.He added that 838 graduands would be conferred with degrees in various fields. Thirty nine graduating students would be conferred with MBBS, 56 with first-class, 302 with second-class upper division, 375 with second-class lower and 66 with third class.
