Bayelsa to prosecute parents who fail to send kids to school
The Bayelsa State government has threatened to prosecute parents who fail to send their children to school. The Commissioner for Education, Jonathan Obuebite, disclosed this yesterday in Yenagoa, after its 89th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.
He said the decision became necessary after Governor Seriake Dickson had promulgated the Compulsory Primary and Secondary Education Law.The commissioner warned that any child seen to be loitering or hawking on the streets during school hours, would be picked up, while the parent or guardian would be prosecuted as contained in the law.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, also told journalists that henceforth, any community that is not receptive to projects would risk losing such development in their domain.
