AOCOED graduates 5674 teachers, seeks improved funding

About 5674 graduating students of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), from the full time NCE programme, School of Part-time Studies, and Centre for Outreach Programme, have been advised to continually seek knowledge and be knowledgeable, so as to thrive in all their endeavours.Provost of the institution, Dr. Omolola Ladele, who stated this at the combined convocation of the college, which also featured presentation of honourary award to Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and other eminent Nigerians said the graduands have been fully equipped with the requisite skills.

She said, “Just as you were told when you were received into various programmes of the college, there is no limit to learning, education is lifelong, success is a journey and not a destination. I therefore implore you to pursue your legitimate desires with determination and aspire to be successful within the ambit of the laws of the land where you live. Go, and be good ambassadors of the college.”

Commending governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his show of commitment to the wellbeing of the college, the provost appealed to the governor to further help in tackling the challenges militating against its smooth operations.

“We thank Governor Ambode for the increment in the monthly college subvention in 2016. With the increment, the college is fully paying staff salaries and staff’s third party deductions. We have also recorded huge success stories, one of which is the full accreditation of both the institution and all its 31 programmes. Furthermore, with the best practices adopted in running the college’s affairs, the college was adjudged number one college of education in Nigeria and 55th among 233 tertiary institutions in the country by Webometrics ranking.

“But, amidst our huge success stories, we still have constraints that if addressed, will improve the standing of our college as a key player in the repositioning of teacher education in the state and the nation.”We therefore seek help in the release of funds for the completion of administrative building, which will ease the present congestion of staff and create a conducive environment for work and research. “Our roads are in poor state and some parts of the college are not accessible because of the terrain.”

Chairman of Council, Prof Tunde Samuel said the convocation attests “to the rising profile of a trailblazer college, well equipped to promote academic excellence and moral consciousness of our teeming youths.”
