Dupsy… Touching lives Through Music

Having completed works on her latest album Foretaste, gospel music singer Dupsy Adesina-Oyeneyin recently staged a special concert at the MUSON Center, Onikan, Lagos, tagged Foretaste; an evening with Dupsy and friends. An evening of gospel music renditions, the event featured Dupsy, alongside other notable musicians, who took their turn to entertain the audience.

For guests, it was a great opportunity to be among the first set of Nigerians to savour Dupsy’s latest work, as well as watch per perform the songs live.

Speaking with journalists, Dupsy, who expresses her desire to make the concert global, assured it would become a yearly event.

“Foretaste is a Christian programme where we gather to listen and dance to inspirational music and it’s meant to torch lives and give people a foretaste of heaven and the glory of God. Enough of us singing and jumping and nothing happen at the end of the day. If unbelievers can go out to have good time listing to their choice of music and leave with excitement, people should leave a Christian event with excitement and fulfillment; they should leave with something extra,” she said.

The idea behind the concert is to raise fund for the Home for Tomorrow initiative, a foundation set up to meet people’s need, regardless of their cultural background or class.

“We focus more on widow and orphans, while there are people with parents, languishing in poverty. Yet, there are people with resources, who don’t know what to do with it. We want to bring people with the need and those with the resources together under the initiative,” she said.

On how she became a gospel artiste, Dupsy said, “I grew up in a Christian family where morning devotion is made compulsory. We sing hymn so, I know a lot of hymn and I joined the church choir after giving my life to Christ in 1987 while I was in secondary School.

For the singer, music is a call to serve God.

“ I had some experience in 2001 where the Lord told me to minister life to people through singing and he has also given me the liberty to also work at the same time; I sing but I also work full time,” she noted.

The Oando supply chain Manager added, “I’m not a songwriter, every song I sing came to me in my quite time; I recorded them and my producers made something beautiful out of it.”

Segun Obe, who performed at the concert said, “this is eternity; you can make all the money on earth and go to hell. We are talking about making money and also making heaven so, for me, am sowing a seed to where I’m going when I leave the world.”

For Ifeoluwa Akinpelu, “this is another medium to give back and tell people about Christ through songs.”
