Don urges redesigning of curriculum to raise entrepreneurs

Founder, Young People Life Skills Training Series, Mr Tunji Ajibola has called for a review of the curriculum to meet current societal needs.

Ajibola lamented that too much attention is being placed on the curriculum at the expense of real life knowledge.

The law teacher who spoke with The Guardian on his foundation and its emphasis on skill acquisition posited that curriculum must be developed to meet the current trends.

He said,” There is too much concentration on the curriculum at the expense of real knowledge itself, curriculum is to guide us to build human capital for the society. The nation’s emphasis on certificates is killing the purpose of education; we need contemporary education to meet current trends, learning must be developed around new area of needs, in the next 20 years, some profession will no longer be relevant again. Society is dynamic, it changes from time to time hence curriculum must also be developed to reflect current situations.

Speaking on his foundation, Ajibola explained that the programme is targeted towards young secondary school students, undergraduates and fresh graduates as well as artisans.

“We teach them what formal education is not addressing-skills needed for everyday living as well as skills to solve problems and real life situations.

Once we get life skill education right, it will help in curbing societal ills including youths restiveness and kidnapping.

“Life skill is about nurturing young people in their transitory stage of life to become responsible adults.

On the increased cases of restiveness and agitations, Ajibola said the present generation of youths must be rightly guided on the need to pursue a noble and positive cause.
