Delivering educational content through digital technology platforms to students will not only fast-track learning, but also expand their knowledge and enable them contribute meaningfully to the new dynamic evolving global economy.

Chairman, Board of Director Learn Africa, Chief Emeke Iwerebon, made the assertion, while speaking at the 2016 Learn Africa-NECO Excellence Awards presentation in Lagos State.

The awards are sponsored by the Learn Africa Education Development Foundation (LAEDF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Education resource company, Learn Africa Plc.

In his address at the event, Iwerebon said, “The Federal Government recently embarked on the recruitment and training of unemployed graduates in various fields of endeavours, including teaching, using digital technology platforms under the N-Power Volunteer Network. Our belief is that this innovative method of learning is a steppingstone to the complete transformation of the educational sector.

“We are pleased to have been given the opportunity to contribute our educational expertise by way of providing resource materials that constitute the N-Teach component on N-Power project. These materials include digital teaching video modules, additional reference materials for training and e-versions of our primary textbooks, workbooks and teacher’s guides, to prepare the new teachers for this new vocation and also assist them in functioning effectively as teachers.

“With this firm adoption of digital technology as a platform for learning by the Federal Government, the Nigerian student will certainly not be left behind in this new world order.

Among those honoured for their outstanding performances in the 2016 National Examinations Council (NECO) were overall best candidate, Egbunu Mudi Gabriel, of School of the Gifted, Abuja; Suliman Ibrahim (second position), also of the School of the Gifted, Abuja, and Osemeke Ogorchukwu Mary, of Louisville Senior Girls Secondary School, Abuja.

The teacher recognition award went to Sandy Udeme Okpongette of the School of the Gifted, Abuja, who emerged the overall best teacher.

Registrar of NECO, Prof Charles Uwakwe, who was represented by Dr. Ikechukwu Anyanwu, in his remarks urged the awardees not to relent, but be diligent in their studies at all times.
