‘Conducive environment, security enhance learning, development’

University teachers have identified a conducive school atmosphere, adequate security and developmental projects as sine qua non to effective learning and skills acquisition for students. They noted that one of the best decisions a parent can take is laying the right foundation for her wards.

Prof Samuel Tesunbi of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), while addressing parents, applicants, undergraduates and members of the public at the open day event of the institution held in Lagos said harped on research and qualitative learning in our universities.

He described AUN as one of the frontline universities that encourages students to be engaged in first-hand learning and research.

He noted that the university was established with core philosophy of entrepreneurship and development, while the concept is based on liberal arts curriculum that engages students in critical thinking, qualitative reasoning, problem solving and decision making.

Prof Olumide Longe, Chairman Information system said the programmes were designed to address practical requirements of the local industry with core courses that provide depth in various fields.

“Students are exposed to that fundamental scientific laws and engineering principles that govern the design implementation, use and maintenance of computing information and telecommunication system”.

In her presentation, Mrs. Funke Yvonne Okoro said the institution’s law programme has a world –class curriculum that advance human dignity and social justice through the knowledge of law and its innovative application to development.

“It provides collaborative environment to learn, think and communicate about law, policy and justice. The law courses are focused on some of critical issues in Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world. She added that their graduates are not only developing world- class skills in ligation, but also possess dispute resolution techniques.
