The management of Wellspring College, Lagos, has restated its commitment to equipping students with the right leadership skills and ethical behaviours that would moderate their conduct in the larger society as they forge ahead.

Principal of the college, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Oloriade, who spoke at the opening of a one-day intensive leadership training, where it partnered Realstar Leaders Club, said the college was committed to providing moral education and leadership training that would ensure that students’ conduct conforms with acceptable standards locally and internationally.

She said for the society to be safe and healthy, youths must be rightly informed and equipped with skills needed to be balanced individuals and future leaders.

She said, “Our determination to inculcate the right leadership traits in our students is borne out of the zeal to create a safe and better society for our children. They are still at the formative stage, and any virtue they imbibe now would stick and make them better citizens.

“If we want to get it right in this country, we must teach our children the qualities of a good leader- integrity, character, accountability, among others, and bring out leadership traits in them early enough. That is why we are partnering with Realstar Leaders Club to give our students the best.”

Coordinator of the club, Pastor Matthew Ebare, stressed the need for parents, schools and the church to educate children on moral values, leadership traits and character development to enable them become better individuals.

He said going by what is happening in the country, conscious efforts should be made to help change the orientation and mindset of the youths regarding leaders and leadership.

“Leadership directs the position and prosperity of a nation; it determines the direction of a society. In every developed country, it is somebody that led such country to prosperity. Our society has produced charismatic leaders without character, principles, conscience and moral, the reason for poor governance.
