In a bid to contribute its quota to educational development in Nigeria, the Christopher Kolade Foundation (CKF) has empowered 56 girls in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, music and agriculture (STEMMA). The students were drawn from public schools in Lagos and were camped at Thames Valley College, Sagamu for seven days.

Tagged: STEMMA Hands on Empowerment (SHE) Camp, the programme stirred participants’ curiosity and interest in exploring the world of science and technology.

Former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, while addressing the girls during the closing ceremony, advised them against living recklessly. Rather, they should live purposely. Said he: “If you have an idea now, pray to God to give you an opportunity to express that idea, because until this happens, the idea remains an idea. You also need God’s grace to make your idea produce the right result, which will come when the activation of that idea begins to bless others. If your idea is just about you alone, then it is not a good idea, because God created us so that we can bless one another”.

Chairman of CKF, Mrs. Beatrice Kolade said, “girl child education is very important to me because as a girl, I was not allowed to go to secondary school, but a teacher training school. In fact, I was one of the few that gained admission to Holy Child in Lagos, but I was not allowed to go simply because I was a girl. For that reason, I decided to pursue the girl child education.

“During the opening ceremony, I advised the girls not to allow themselves be pushed aside just because they are girls. I am so impressed at the progress they have made. The Christopher Kolade Foundation is going to have lots of SHE initiative in future.”

She explained that the next edition would be for schools on Lagos Island. She also advised the students to display integrity and hard work at all times.

Responding, the students expressed gratitude to CKF and said they have learnt a lot during the programme.
