Babcock University holds youth expo for secondary schools

To stimulate secondary school students on the importance of technology as a veritable tool for development, the Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, last Wednesday, held its maiden Youth Expo Tech.

The event, held at the Central Cafeteria of the institution, brought students of different schools together under one roof, to sensitise them about the potentials inherent in technology, as well as assist them in their chosen vocations.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ademola Tayo, disclosed at the event that its essence is to expose participants to the potentials inherent in technology.

In his view, if Nigerians were afraid of the negative aspect of technology, they would equally miss all the numerous advantages in it. So, there should be ways to handle it so that people won’t use it for negative purposes.

“We invited motivational speakers from across the world to tell the students the advantage of technology. There are young people in the United States, who began at the age of 13 and 14 and can be reckoned with in the society today, because they use the platform of technology development,” he explained.

One of the speakers, Bradley Wade, who is the MD, ABE-Africa, advised the students to imbibe the seven qualities of success: Hard work, discipline, integrity and character, consistency, risk appetite, trust and honesty.

He informed them that success is not only about paper qualification or degree, but the ability to embrace these qualities in order to have holistic education.

“There is nothing better than hard work. Life is not easy; life is not fair. Life changes and as it changes, so also the goals and aspirations of human beings,” he said.

In his speech, the Senior Business Development Manager for Africa, CompTIA, Garreth Morris, a highly talented and purpose-driven individual, enjoined the students to be focused and embrace principles of authenticity.
