AOCOED workers allege victimisation by management, seek Sanwo-Olu’s intervention

Members of the Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN), Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin chapter, have called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to look into the affairs of the school management and governing council, alleging that they are being victimised.

The group, which embarked on an indefinite strike last Monday, due to the alleged victimisation, claimed that the college’s governing council and the management is witch-hunting the leaders of the union following their refusal to release a minute of their meetings.

The branch chairperson, Comrade Wunmi Ombugadu, in a chat with The Guardian said, “trouble started when the management suddenly requested to for the minutes of the meeting of the executive and congress of SSUCOEN. We refused to release the minutes. The issue brought oppression, queries and threats to sack the leadership of the union.”

“The council ignored the fact that we are representing our congress. It is a mandate given to us legally. We never committed any offence with our designation. We have already embarked on indefinite strike as a result with approval from our congress, zonal and national directive.

They believed that victimisation of union leader will help them continue with their act of impunity.

“We are appealing to the government to intervene on the issue because the governing council under the leadership of Prof. Tunde Samuel, has vowed that they are going to dismiss us. Their act is a pure victimisation and lack of respect to rule of law.”

Another member of the group alleged that, “It is the governing council that is doing the day-to-day running of the college now instead of supervisory role.”
