The 16th anniversary celebration of Al-Habibbiyah Islamic Society opens today with a special Jumaat service at the society’s mosque in Abuja.

The anniversary lecture is slated for its National Headquarters at Plot 753, Babagana Kingibe Street, Guzape District, Asokoro Extension, Abuja, on the theme ‘Islam: Evolving purposeful Leadership through corruption free election’ on Sunday, January 6, 2019.

National Chief Imam of the Society, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, said the ceremony is part of the society’s efforts to give a voice to the clamour for free, fair and transparent elections necessary for sustainable national development.

“The lecture, to be delivered by an erudite Islamic scholar, Ustaz Abubakar Siddeeq, would provide a framework for engagement and discussion by other scholars and members of the audience.

“Events leading up to the 2019 elections have clearly shown that we all need to collaborate to ensure that the exercises are not only free, fair and credible, but would be free of corrupt practices such as vote buying, alteration of results and the disenfranchisement of voters among other ills,” Adeyemi said.

There will also be a second lecture on “Islam and Security,” to be delivered by a retired Commissioner of Police, Bashir Balogun.

The celebration will climax on Sunday with a special prayer for the nation.

Al-Habibbiyyah Islamic Society, established in 2003, is an Islamic think-tank whose areas of activities cut across education (Islamic and Western), propagation of Islamic tenets, re-orientation toward national development and the encouragement of genuine leadership qualities in all faithful.

The society periodically engages in inter-religious dialogue, provides counselling and health care services, welfare assistance and advances Islamic Culture in all facets of human activities and coordinates the disbursement of Zakat to the needy.
