Kebbi seeks EU, Oxfam interventions on crop subsidy

The Kebbi State government has appealed to European Union (EU) and Oxfam to help subsidise agricultural production in the state to make the produce compete favourably in the world.

Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu made this appealed at the weekend when he received the EU and Oxfam delegates at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, adding that the request on the two organisations was to encourage the people of Nigeria and African nations to visit Europe out of choice and not out of necessity.He affirmed the commitment of his administration to supporting the programmes and activities of the EU and Oxfam to achieve the desired impacts.

The governor also expressed satisfaction with the intervention programmes of the EU and Oxfam in three local government areas of the state, which are Birnin Kebbi, Jega and Danko/Wasagu local government areas.Bagudu acknowledged that funding by the agencies on poverty eradication and agricultural production had been of immense benefits to the state in the economic empowerment of the people.

Earlier, the leader of the EU delegation, Mr Tomitayo Omole, commended Governor Bagudu on his leadership style, saying the administration had been making efforts to put the state on the path of progress.He explained that intervention programme would address food security and poverty in three local government areas of Birnin Kebbi, Jega and Danko/Wasagu, expressing satisfaction about the positive impacts recorded so far.
