Agriculture is vehicle to economy development, says Ambode, others

Lagos State governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, has explained that agricultural development remains the only way to drive economy of the country as well as create job opportunities for unemployed youths.

Lagos State governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, has explained that agricultural development remains the only way to drive economy of the country as well as create job opportunities for unemployed youths.

The governor said this at the 39th annual general meeting and 19th International Conference of Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Engineers. He was represented by the state Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Olayiwole Onasanya, who delivered a lecture on ‘Eko 2018’, at Oshodi, Lagos. In another development, Governor Jibrila Bindow of Adamawa State and his Lagos State counterpart Mr. Ambode and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Director General (DG) Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), Prof. Gloria Elemo, were given special awards by the association for their contributions to agricultural development.

Ambode said: “Lagos State government is working hard with other states for instance, Kebbi State among, others, including Federal Government to ensure food sustainability in the state,” he said.

National chairman of the association, Dr. Shu’aibu Musa, said the event was to key into the Federal Government’s efforts to diversify the economy from mono revenue economy to multi-revenue economy. “The dependent on oil revenue as mono revenue has done more harm than good to the economy of the nation. However, the government seems to be succeeding in its efforts to diversify the economy.
