The Students Union Government (SUG), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) has revealed plans to assist indigent students in paying their tuition.

Erstwhile president of the union, Adesomoju Samuel, who disclosed this on campus, said the union is planning to liaise with the institution’s alumni body and other interested parties to give financial assistance to some students who are genuinely finding it hard to pay school fees.

He added that they would set up a committee to critically assess the situation of selected students.

“The committee will be empowered by the constitution of the union to go across all faculties and get names and details of genuine and sincere students, who are truly in need and struggle to pay their fees either in half or full.

“We will strive to identify students who are struggling to pay their fees. Some owe two semesters or more. For instance, some are in 400-level and are yet to pay for 200-level fees even as we speak. Such person’s fee will be covered for a session, leaving such student to pay for 300 level alone,” he said

He stated that it was a move by the student union, which may possibly be actualised by the next administration. He also revealed that kindhearted persons have been donating to the cause and the criteria will not include academic buoyancy.

He, therefore, urged the incoming executives to be patient and wise in their decision making.

“We are not using academic criteria. So, if you have genuine and sincere reasons to show that you are unable to pay the tuition fee, you are eligible. We have about 1000 students who are in these situation and we will try to give them consideration as much as we can.”
