AAU students allege police harassment
Students of Ambrose Ali University (AAU) Ekpoma, Edo State, have called on the management of the university to urgently save them from police incessant harassment and abuse in their various hostels.
The Guardian learnt that the Nigeria Police Force is currently raiding the school hostels in search of Internet fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo boys.
According to an eyewitness, “They destroyed window nets and arrested some innocent students in the process.”
Another student who pleaded anonymity said: “The police entered into our hostels and started harassing all the occupants of the hostel. We heard they are looking for some Yahoo boys. But their approach to their search is absolutely wrong.”
In doing that, they have arrested innocent students who knew nothing about their mission. We are calling on the university management to come to our aid.”
Another student from Abada hostel where the policemen arrested two boys, said: “Immediately after the arrest, they jumped to another hostel to begin the raiding, tearing our window nets for unknown reasons. We are no longer safe in this hostel, we are pleading to the school authorities to intervene in this matter, before it something terrible happens.”
