No fewer than 500 people benefited from the free medical services offered at the 23rd Ramadan Lecture of Ola-Olu Muslim Society of Nigeria, in Iwo, Osun State.

The lecture, which featured reputable Muslims scholars and top government functionaries was held at The Wings Schools Central Mosque, Iwo, Osun State, where medical doctors from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Osogbo, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre at Minna, Niger State render medical services to the participants.

The Guest Lecturer was the Chief Imam of the University of Benin, Prof. Buniyamin Adesina Ayinde, of the Department of Pharmacognosy, said: “We cannot achieve that for which we are not destined” adding that desperation leads people to commit atrocities.

He counseled believers not to assume that they will not be subjected to trials, and see that as a major reason for renouncing their faith, saying: “Allah loves those who are consistent in their beliefs and look up to the day of accountability,”

He reiterated the point that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, noting that Muslim houses of worship had sprung up in places in European countries whereas this was not the case centuries back.

The Chairman of the University of Lagos Muslim Community and former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Lai Olurode, appealed to Nigerians of different religious persuasions to be tolerant of diversity and pluralism.

He said that if the Creator of the world had wanted homogeneity instead of heterogeneity, being of incomparable wisdom and majesty, He would have done so.

He enjoined those in leadership positions to be broad minded and not deny people under them their rights or discriminate against them on the basis of religion or ethnicity.

Among the dignitaries at the occasion were the Secretary to the Government of Osun State and a Former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Osun State, Dr. Misbaudeen Adelasoye among others.
