Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Petroleum Development Company, Austin Avuru, will be discussing the future of the global oil and gas industry in the next decade and the impact on the African region.

The West African International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (WAIPEC) opens today with a two-day conference programmes and exhibition.

Following the success of its maiden edition in 2017, this year’s WAIPEC, being hosted by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), is expected to deliver high-level strategic sessions and discussions on game changing solutions for the industry.

The conference with the theme: Innovention: Sustaining West African Oil And Gas Production Through Innovation And Collaboration, will also feature an international exhibition, which will ensure that all participants in the oil and gas community share their views, develop partnerships and attract investments.

After the opening address, proceedings will begin with a keynote by the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, highlighting how Nigeria and African oil and gas industry could compete effectively in today’s challenging market.

This will be followed by Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Petroleum Development Company, Austin Avuru, who will be discussing the future of the global oil and gas industry in the next decade and the impact on the African region.

An expert panel discussion will explore ‘Africa competing in today’s challenging markets,’ featuring Chairman and Managing Director, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Jeffrey Ewing; Acting CEO, Petroleum Commission, Ghana, Egbert Faibille Jnr; and Managing Director, First E&P/Chairman, Independent Petroleum Producers Group, Ademola Adeyemi–Bero.

The conference will also dwell on funding and investment in the sector with contributions from Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Services, Roland Ewubare; Senior Trade Advisor, Department for International Trade, British Deputy High Commission, Nigeria, Oluwafemi Adesanya; Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Simbi Wabote; Head, Trade, Department for International Trade, British High Commission, Cameroon, Michael Kimbi Tchenga; and Vice President/Head, Energy Research, Ecobank Development Company (EDC) Nigeria Limited, Dolapo Oni.

The National Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme is a key topic for the second day with discussions from President, Nigerian Gas Association, Dada Thomas; Senior Technical Adviser on Upstream & Gas, Ministry of Petroleum, Gbite Adeniji; Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power, NNPC, Saidu Muhammad; and Deputy Country Director, AFD, André Hue.

Further discussions will focus on driving regional local content collaboration, standardisation and growth, featuring industry feedback on policies and factors encouraging and limiting growth and recommended solutions.

Participants on day-two will hear from Austin Uzoka, Nigerian Content Manager, SNEPCo; Ainslie Boswell, Business Development Consultant (Oil & Gas Engineering), Megchem; Okunola Odusote, Managing Director, Popham Walter Odusote Limited; Juliette Twumasi-Anokye, Managing Partner, Anojul Afriyie & Co; Frank Mugisha, Assistant Commissioner, Petroleum Directorate, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Uganda; and Olusoga Oduselu, General Manager, Nigerian Content Development, Chevron Nigeria Limited.

The conference will end with PETAN outlining its challenges to the government, drawing up a roadmap for the next 21 months and a call to action–expectations from PETAN, the wider industry and other key stakeholders.

Over 200 companies will be participating at the event, with an international exhibition running alongside the conference and showcasing the latest products and services.
