PTFP points way to regular power supply

Vandalism of crude oil and gas and transmission infrastructures must be concisely dealt with to ensure sustainability of power supply, according to the Presidential Taskforce on Power (PTFP).

Special Performance Monitor, Generation, Engr Simeon Atakulu, who said this in a presentation titled ‘Status of Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry’, added that the establishment of an agreed cost reflective tariff is the most important and urgent issue to be put in place to ascertain commercial viability of the chain.

According to him, payments must be effected timely and promptly for services rendered along the chain and plan made to offset outstanding debts.

He stated: “A major gap in the past is lack of integration of plans from Fuel to Power chain resulting in stranded assets of gas, power and or transmission. Going forward a central inter-ministerial monitoring team is required to ensure coordination along the chain; emergency

“Relationship along the chain must be guided by Contracts and such put in place as a Condition for final investment decisions.

“All ongoing projects must be closely monitored and implemented to ensure timely completion”.

He noted that currently planned Load demand study must be completed by Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) as soon as possible and form the basis of future grid development and updated regularly to assure its availability for decision making.
He added that the development of /embedded power in areas of proven lack of supply in the short term and where possible using alternate fuel source.
