Jubaili Bros unveils PV-diesel hybrid system for cost efficiency, CO2 reduction

To reduce operating costs of industrial firms and level of carbon emission in the country, Jubaili Bros (Engineering) Limited, a diesel generator manufacturer and seller, has concluded plans to introduce PV-Diesel Gensets Hybrid System into the Nigerian market.

According to the firm, the new solution, which represents a combination of renewable energy with traditional diesel generators, is expected to lower operation costs of industrial firms by at least 60-70 per cent , as well as reduce carbon emission by 112 tonnes yearly.

During an on-site tour, the firm explained that the photovoltaic-diesel hybrid system or PV-Diesel hybrid system consists of PV modules, diesel gensets, inverters and intelligent controllers. This combination ensures that the maximum amount of solar energy is fed into the system at any given time. It offers a flexible modular structure that can be upgradable if the load demand increases.

With at least 200KW of solar energy system installed at its plant in Oregun , Lagos, the firm explained that the move has helped to reduce its fuel costs and its model of operations.

“Diesel generators has been the primary solution; we offer to provide quick on-demand electricity to our customers. However, in a bid to deliver other options, Jubaili Bros has invested and developed renewable energy alternatives, in particular solar with or without a battery backup,” the company’s Business Development Manager, Rami Suleiman told journalists at a media briefing in Lagos on Monday.

According to him, the company’s strategy is to combine renewable energy with traditional diesel generators to cut fuel consumption cost, while at the same time retaining the flexibility of having on demand power supply anytime of the day or night.

“Our hybrid solutions are optimum for industrial firms, telecom application, off-grid remote locations, and even for grid connected application in locations where the utility power supply is unsustainable,” the company said.

For sites interested in back-up storage, Kai stated that Jubaili has signed an agreement with Tesla for the provision of powerpacks in the country.

The firm’s Marketing Manager, George Kai explained that by adding renewable solar energy to its core generating sets business, Jubaili Bros is committed to provide complete turn-on key power solutions in Nigeria and other countries in the EMEA.

Considering the cost of the project at the initial stage, Suleiman urged interested off-takers to explore financing options from the Bank of Industry (BoI) in order to enjoy cheap financing with a long tenor.

Kai added that the firm’s Ikeja factor has commenced the production of solar panel mounting structures, battery cabinets and racks, while also providing job opportunities in the country.
