BEDC to publish power availability schedule

As part of the efforts to enhance energy efficiency of consumers under its watch, the Benin Electricity Distribution Plc (BEDC) is set to commence the publication of power availability schedule for customers in their franchise areas of Edo and Delta states.

As part of the efforts to enhance energy efficiency of consumers under its watch, the Benin Electricity Distribution Plc (BEDC) is set to commence the publication of power availability schedule for customers in their franchise areas of Edo and Delta states.

The Chief Executive officer (CEO), BEDC,  Funke Osibodu, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin, Edo State, said the power availability schedule initiative was necessitated due to the recent reduction in electricity production nationwide.

She said the initiative would not only equip customers on predictions about schedules of power supplies, interruptions as well as when to be restored, but also to aid them plan their activities around the schedule.

Osibodu, who mentioned that the schedule publication would start with Edo and Delta, and later cover Ondo and Ekiti states said the load shedding time may sometimes vary due to changes in generation, technical challenges and other unforeseen events beyond control.

According to her, the load management schedule was prepared based on the roaster submitted by each of the company’s 24 business units, while codes were assigned to each 11KV feeder emanating from injection substations that feeds specific areas in the four states.

The BEDC boss advanced that the schedule was being given a final shape before publication and subsequently implementation.

The Executive Director, Commercial, BEDC, Abu Ejoor, decried the level of energy theft by consumers especially in Edo state,

He explained that despite “the metering programme being implemented in selected locations in Benin for instance, some residential customers still resist mounting of meters on the pole due to their “penchant for by-pass,” adding that the company is determined to implement its metering programme in spite of the odds,

On vandalism, the BEDC Safety Manager, Gilbert Nweke, said the DISCO has commenced fencing of its distribution sub-stations with transparent wire gauze, fixing signage to warn people against trespass, and has given support to Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to arrest and prosecute vandals.
